The Wonders in Nature – Wonders in Neighborhoods (W.I.N.-W.I.N.) program conducts hands-on, wildlife conservation education in underserved urban elementary schools. The program consists of 4 to 7 classroom visits and lessons conducted by a W.I.N.-W.I.N. instructor. As part of the program teachers are also provided with pre and post-visit activities, hands on science activities, and guidebooks. Each class also receives a field site visit to one of more than 30 partner sites that include natural areas, parks, and museums. In addition, the W.I.N.-W.I.N. program encourages family involvement by organizing a free family day at the Denver Zoo. A team of internal and external evaluators conducted a thorough evaluation of the program to determine if it is meeting its goals and the needs of participating schools. A variety of data collection methods were used to gather data from stakeholders, many of the evaluation instruments were created in both English and Spanish. The results were used to improve the program and for grant reporting purposes.
