The evaluation of the golden tamarin environmental education program in Brazil was conducted by an external evaluator who completed the work as a graduate thesis. By comparing results of a 2001 survey with baseline data from 1986, the author evaluated the environmental education program of the Golden Lion Tamarin Association in Brazil. Data collection methods included face-to-face surveys of 666 residents and 4 focus groups. The evaluation led to recommendations to improve the golden tamarin education program such as to develop information for the public that addresses the gaps identified by the survey in specific knowledge about golden lion tamarins and the importance of their rainforest habitat, target activities and materials to specific audiences, such as women, and use delivery systems that reach these audiences.
